Jude 1:17-23
[17] But you, my dear friends, must remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ predicted. [18] They told you that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly desires. [19] These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God’s Spirit in them. [20] But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, [21] and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love. [22] And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. [23] Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.
Do you make time to build your brothers and sisters up? Since we see them and get a glimpse into their lives, it feels pretty natural to reach out with a little kindness and support. It’s important to remember that people often face battles we can’t even see, and sometimes just a kind word can make a huge difference. Having close friends who keep us accountable in this journey to be more like Jesus makes all the difference. That’s one of the biggest blessings of Christian accountability.
Being honest and living truthfully means acknowledging what holds us back. It can feel like things such as pornography, gambling, compulsive spending, or dishonesty are unbeatable when you're going through them alone, but remember, you don't have to be alone. You're only alone if you choose to be. If you ask someone to hold you accountable, they need to be held accountable for their own struggles too. It's mutually beneficial. Real Christian accountability isn't about judging each other — it's about helping each other stay on God's path.
If you see someone struggling or heading down the wrong path, as brothers and sisters, we need to speak up. Let's offer our love through holding each other accountable and lifting them up by letting the Holy Spirit guide us through the next step. This is what love looks like. We all need this if we want to become better and continue growing in our faith. It won't be easy, it will feel embarrassing, and people might resist, but it's definitely worth it.
Be there for each other.
Jude 1:24
[24] Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.
