John 15:13
“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
This verse is a powerful reminder—especially for us guys. Life gets busy. Between work, family, and everything in between, it’s easy to lose sight of the people God has placed in our lives. The men you look forward to seeing at church, in your small group, or even just grabbing coffee with—they’re part of your Christian brotherhood. They’re there for a reason. We may not always understand that reason, but we’ll never discover it if we don’t take time to nurture those relationships.
Now, this verse doesn’t mean you literally have to die to prove your love for a friend. More often, showing up in Christian brotherhood means laying down your own comfort or plans to serve someone else. Like helping a buddy move. Let’s be honest—helping someone move is usually terrible. It might feel like it's just one step above dying. But it’s in those moments of selfless service that we reflect the love Jesus modeled.
We’ve all had that one person come to mind out of nowhere. Maybe it’s someone you haven’t seen in a while. Don’t ignore it—pray and reach out. That’s the beauty of Christian brotherhood—it’s Spirit-led and heart-connected.
A while back, a friend I hadn’t heard from in a long time came to mind—right in the middle of a church service. It felt weird to text during worship, but I felt a strong urgency. I prayed, and then sent him a message with a couple of verses and a word of encouragement. He didn’t respond right away, but later he said it was a miracle—exactly what he needed at that moment. Praise God! I left that church service walking on air.
This is what makes Christian brotherhood so powerful. The Holy Spirit doesn’t always wait for perfect timing. Sometimes He prompts us when it’s inconvenient. But when we’re willing to listen and act, we get to be a vessel of God’s love in someone else’s life.
So whether it’s helping a friend, sending an encouraging message, or just making time to be present—do it. Live out John 15:13 not just in words, but in action. There truly is no greater love than to live in service to one another.
Psalm 133:1–3
“How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron’s head, that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe. Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermonthat falls on the mountains of Zion. And there the Lord has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting.”
This passage is the heart of Christian brotherhood—living in harmony, standing shoulder to shoulder in faith, and reflecting Christ in our friendships. Let's lean into that kind of unity and purpose.
Amen.
