Psalm 51:10
“Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.”
Clean heart.
I’ve been going through some inward changes, and this morning I felt the Lord wanted me to share what I’m learning. Praise God, our hearts are made new and filled with the Holy Spirit from the very first moment we believe. Yet we still have a sinful nature that struggles with temptation brought on by our desires.
All of us are unique. We are strong in some areas and weak in others. It’s our job to find out what those are. Some are obvious and easily seen by simply paying attention to what we do daily.
Do we stop and stare a little too long?Do we “stumble” upon things that feed our desires?
When I pray, “Create a clean heart in me,” I’m asking God to search those places I might be ignoring. Taking every thought captive means grabbing that thought and dragging it straight to the Lord’s feet to see if it measures up. It means developing a process that analyzes our thoughts and being intentional about blocking or removing them immediately if they are trouble.
The enemy can influence our thoughts. He sends lies about our self-worth, our importance, our identity. Knowing and reading what God’s Word says gives us the ammunition to defend against that junk. When we allow those lies in and believe them, a stronghold begins to form. It will slowly change your outlook and how you respond to situations.
Inward reflection — and asking God to bring His super-bright flashlight to illuminate the dark corners where these “monsters” hide — is the only way we learn how to defeat them.
Don’t delay.
As I found out, there can be something there that even you don’t see until our Heavenly Father drags it out of the corner and shows you what’s been putting its claws into everything you say and do. And when He does, it can be uncomfortable — but it is freeing.
That’s why this prayer matters: Create a clean heart in me. Not just the surface. Not just what others can see. The hidden places too.
By the strength and grace of God, we can defeat these monsters. It takes courage. It takes determination. But our Father will have that monster by the neck, and with His Word and your faith, you have the weapon to deliver the decisive blow.
If we truly desire transformation, we must be bold enough to pray, “Create a clean heart in me,” and courageous enough to let Him answer it.
Be bold and courageous.
Thank You, Father, for one more day. Amen.
Proverbs 4:23–27
“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.”
