Galatians 5:14
“For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
Today, my son and I planned a fun outing to a car show. We hopped in the hot rod, full of excitement—until it wouldn’t start. Instantly, I was irritated, short-tempered, and frustrated with everyone around me. After a few tries, the engine finally roared to life, and off we went.
The show itself was small, but the people were kind. After browsing a while, we decided to take a cruise. But again—the car refused to start. At that point, I was so fed up I could’ve given the thing away. Embarrassed. Irritated. Not thinking clearly.
Then my son took initiative. He walked over and asked some guys nearby for help. They brought over a jump pack and some cables. The jump pack didn’t work. Then—get this—they hooked the jumper cables up to a firetruck. Still, nothing happened at first.
And that’s when the Holy Spirit’s guidance cut through my frustration.
Sitting in the driver’s seat, I had a moment of clarity. I stopped. I prayed. I realized I had completely missed the blessings around me. People were showing up—neighbors willing to help. If that didn’t work, I had AAA. God had already provided support—I just hadn’t seen it. I asked the Lord to forgive my bad attitude and simply prayed: “God, please let this car start.”
I turned the key… and it started. Praise God.
This moment was more than a mechanical win—it was a spiritual wake-up call. It was the Holy Spirit’s guidance that reminded me to step back, check my heart, and see God’s hand moving through others. Neighbors helping neighbors. Strangers offering kindness. The Spirit gently correcting me and opening my eyes.
In that moment, I was the one being blessed. It reminded me that sometimes our attitude can block our view of what the Holy Spirit is guiding us toward.
Let this be a testimony: Even when our nature wants to react in frustration, Holy Spirit guidance can lead us back to peace, perspective, and purpose.
Galatians 5:16–17
“So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants... These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.”
Let’s choose to be led by the Spirit—even at car shows, even in moments of irritation, even when the hot rod won’t start. That’s where the Holy Spirit’s guidance changes everything.
Amen.
