Psalms 34:17-18
[17] The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. [18] The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
It's amazing how different people react to the same things. For example, one person might be devastated if someone says they're getting fat, while another might just say, “You're right, I need to start working out.” To one, it's totally negative, and the other uses it as motivation.
I noticed it with my siblings. We all pretty much had the same negative situation growing up. Some turned to substance abuse, while others, like me, internalized it.
Here I am at 45 years old, and God is exposing rotting decay inside me from when I was a child. Negative thoughts, self-worth issues, distrust in others — they are holding me back. They are robbing me of the value and purpose I have because God has chosen me to be more than another wounded child trapped in a man's body.
Everyone has wounds. Some may not seem like a big deal now that you're older, but not addressing them will allow the decaying, rotting flesh to keep growing. Healing from childhood wounds through God starts with allowing Him to expose what we've tried to bury for years.
I encourage you to take the time to earnestly pray and ask God to expose anything that may be holding you back. Once it's exposed, ask the Lord to help you remove it like dirty clothes and lay them at the feet of Jesus. Shed that stinky extra weight that slows us down by tainting everything we say and do.
Through my wife's help, I started noticing that it was natural for me to say negative things about myself in what I called a joke. Through prayer, God exposed that I have a massive wound from my childhood, and it's holding me back. It's a bad example to my kids, and I do not want it anymore. It is at the feet of my Lord, and now that I'm aware, I am intentionally going to speak life.
Healing from childhood wounds through God is not pretending the pain never happened. It's allowing Jesus to carry the weight so we can finally walk in freedom instead of dragging around the decay from the past.
Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen.
Matthew 11:28-30
[28] Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
