It Wasn’t Random—It Was God: Obeying the Holy Spirit’s Prompt to Serve

A young man kneels to help an older homeless man sitting on a weathered sidewalk. In a small puddle near the older man’s feet, the reflection reveals the face of Jesus, symbolizing the spiritual truth that helping others is serving Christ.
Obeying the Holy Spirit’s prompt to serve doesn’t always look supernatural—but the reflection tells another story.

Matthew 25:40

“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’”

I was watching The Chosen the other night. In the scene, Jesus was speaking to a room full of people—including the Pharisees. As He shared these words, you could see the understanding come over their faces. That moment—watching it click—brought tears to my eyes.

This chapter in Matthew is so motivating, I had to share it with you. It’s a powerful reminder that there are no coincidences. People don’t just show up in your life by chance. They’re placed—on purpose. And when you're obeying the Holy Spirit’s prompt to serve, you begin to recognize those moments as divine appointments, not random interruptions.

Just like the saying goes, you only get one shot at a first impression. The same goes for being a witness of Christ. If you don’t stand out or stand up for what you believe, you’ll blend in with the world.

That feeling to pay for someone’s groceries? It’s there for a reason. That little nudge is the Spirit. Obeying the Holy Spirit’s prompt to serve unlocks blessings on the other side of your obedience. The urge to buy dinner for first responders? That’s not just kindness—it’s a calling. Do it, and watch what God does with your yes.

We’re living in a target-rich environment. Opportunities to reflect Christ are everywhere. This world is desperate for something real to believe in—and for someone brave enough to show them the way.

When you look into the face of a brother or sister in need, remember—you’re looking into the face of Jesus. It is Him you’re serving. Amen.

Matthew 25:45–46 (NLT)

“And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.”
