The Day God Showed Me His Provision in Hard Times Through an Unexpected Blessing

Today’s testimony is brought to you by our Heavenly Father.
I’ve had a pretty encouraging week, and I felt compelled to share it with you all in the hope that it encourages you too. If God can use a lowly mechanic like me, He can surely use you. What happened this week is just another reminder of God’s provision in hard times, even when the enemy tries to break us down.
Almost everyone I know is experiencing some form of financial hardship. It can get depressing if you let it. My family and I are in that group—our income does not match our bills, and we’re counting down to some big decisions. On top of that, my wife’s paycheck and other money that was due somehow got lost or never sent. It was strange, and I could clearly see the enemy trying to shake us.
But through a lot of prayer, I have peace. In the middle of this financial storm, I’m actually excited for what’s next, because I know the Lord is with us. God’s provision in hard times often shows up when the enemy whispers the loudest.
And the enemy definitely whispered.
“You can’t give your kids Christmas gifts because you can’t bring home more money.”
“Your bills are going unpaid because of you.”
“You are a lousy provider.”
Those thoughts hurt. But I trust God to keep His promises. I know that if we’re supposed to give our kids gifts this Christmas, He will provide. If we are meant to keep our home and pay every bill, that is what will happen. In Him, I’m reminded that I’m valuable as the leader of my family—not because of income, but because of faithfulness.
This gives me peace and helps me let go of what I can’t control so I can focus on what I can do: be a good example and stay faithful.
Our family has made some major changes, and it has been difficult. It’s a sacrifice—a sacrifice we willingly made because we felt the Lord leading us. I confess that making these decisions with my family depending on me felt heavy. In my own strength, I would break. Leaning on the Lord is the only reason I could push through. God’s provision in hard times is often tied directly to our obedience.
One evening, my wife and I were having another hard conversation. We realized we wouldn’t be able to pay all the bills, so we had to prioritize. It was frustrating, but we resisted the temptation to ask “why” and instead decided to be the best stewards we could be.
The next few days were filled with fighting off fear and anxiety—but something started to shift.
My wife went shopping, and our commitment to sticking to a budget was rewarded. Chicken was on sale for prices we’ve never seen. Hamburger was on sale for prices that didn’t make sense. Soup was practically pennies a can. We had the best grocery haul for the money we’ve had in years. These little things were big reminders of God’s provision in hard times, even at the grocery store.
Then the enemy tried again. Our garbage disposal decided to start leaking internally, and of course those things are expensive. We looked everywhere—even Amazon—and finally found one on sale at Ace Hardware for almost half the price of anywhere else. Another miracle from my Father’s hand.
Still, the weight of our unpaid bills hung over us.
Then something happened I’ll never forget.
Someone special visited my work just to say hi. During that visit, this obedient person handed me an envelope full of money—just enough to pay our bills for the month. But they didn’t just deliver money. They delivered hope.
In that moment, I was reminded again of God’s provision in hard times. Not just provision for our needs, but provision for our hearts. Provision for our hope. Provision for our faith.
Now our hope for the coming month—and even for Christmas—is renewed. My family walked into this week knowing full well that the Lord is with us.
This entire testimony is to bring glory to our Father.
He is with us.
Always.
Thank you, Father, for another day. Amen.
