“Therefore, since we receive a Kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, and offer to God pleasing service and acceptable worship with reverence and awe; for our God is indeed a consuming fire.”
I’m the type of person who needs hobbies—something to pour myself into—otherwise, I start
to burn out. At one point, I went through a woodworking phase that pretty much consumed me. Most nights, after work, you could find me in the garage, working on a project or at least thinking about the next one. I hate to admit it, but I gave some of my best time and energy to that hobby.
But then, something deeper sparked inside me—a different kind of fire. A desire stirred in my soul: a longing to know more of the God I had encountered. It wasn’t fleeting. It wasn’t like the woodshop buzz. It was a holy hunger.
Scripture describes us as precious metal—yet full of impurities. When we invite God in, His consuming fire goes to work. He melts us down, not to destroy us, but to refine us. As the fire burns, the impurities rise to the surface—ready to be removed.
And we have a choice. Every day, we choose how much of our hearts we’ll surrender. If we lay down our sin and seek God’s will, He will purify us - He will refine us by fire. He’ll consume every corner of our lives with purpose, peace, and joy—regardless of what’s happening around us.
Hebrews 13:15–16 (NLT)
“Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to His name. And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.”
Let His fire burn. Let it refine. And let your life be consumed—not by the temporary—but by the eternal.
